Funeral procedure

A new tomb place is assigned and a burial permit is issued:
To the relatives, the spouse of the deceased or other person arranging the funeral.

Documents:
1. A written request (the person filing a request becomes a person responsible for maintenance of the tomb).
2. A death certificate (from the civil registry office).
3. A permit issued by Vilnius City Municipality to bury in the cemeteries of Vilnius City, if the deceased was not the resident of Vilnius City.

A tomb for burial can be assigned:
1. For one grave (single) – 3.75 sq. metres (1.5 x 2.5)
2. For two grave (double) – 5.5 sq. metres (2.2 x 2.5)
3. For three grave (triple) – 7 sq. metres (2.8 x 2.5)

A second or a third permit for burying in a family tomb is issued:
To the person responsible for maintenance of the tomb.

Documents for burying in a family tomb:
1. A written request.
2. A death certificate (from the civil registry office).
3. A permit issued by Vilnius City Municipality to bury in the cemeteries of Vilnius City, if the deceased was not the resident of Vilnius City (Vilnius City Municipality issues the permit to bury in the cemeteries of Vilnius City subject to the submission of the statement of the cemetery administration that there is a place for burying in the existing tomb).

If a person entered in the register as a person responsible for maintenance of a tomb dies, or is unable to take care of the tomb due to other reasons, his relatives, spouse or relatives of the persons buried in the tomb shall agree who will be responsible for maintenance of the tomb, and shall inform in writing the supervisor of the cemetery. The supervisor of the cemetery shall make relevant changes in the register.
